Dedicated paddler honoured for years of service

Margi Bohm from Queanbeyan will receive a Distinguished Long Service Award at the 2024 NSW Community Sports Awards.

Margi Bohm, of Queanbeyan, will receive a Distinguished Long Service Award at the 2024 NSW Community Sports Awards on Wednesday.

The awards recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW, which is largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.

Bohm has been a club member of Burley Griffin Canoe Club (BGCC) since 1993 and has been heavily involved with coaching, running clinics and beginner courses, advising triathlon safety boats, organising events and been a committee member.

She has also been a selector for world championships, and accompanied high performance paddlers to South Africa to experience world-class racing.

Over the last eight years, Bohm has introduced Train Smart to BGCC, Paddle NSW and Paddle Australia, held training courses for all Paddle NSW members as well as specific women’s training sessions and camps for Australian representatives.

“Volunteers such as Margi are the backbone of grassroots and community sport and it is fitting these Distinguished Long Service Award recipients are recognised and honoured,” says Sport NSW chairperson Chris Hall.

“We thank them for their years of selfless dedication which has enabled generations of boys and girls, men and women to participate in sport and enjoy the life skills, social benefits and community spirit that it provides,” he said.
