Emergency Services are warning Canberrans to brace themselves for what could be a wet couple of days as conditions deteriorate in the ACT from Thursday to Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the ACT for heavy rain and possibly damaging winds, forecasting a 95 per cent chance of rain on Friday with heavy falls of between 10mm and 40mm most likely in the afternoon and evening.
Likewise for Saturday, with a 95 per cent chance of rain, most likely in the morning and afternoon and the chance of a thunderstorm. Falls could be between 10mm and 45mm.
The ACT State Emergency Service recommends that residents:
- Clean gutters of debris;
- Check that nearby street drains are clear – call City Services if they are blocked;
- Trim overhanging trees and branches;
- Do a general clean-up around the home and backyard;
- Take care while driving, and never ride, walk or drive through a flash flood.
Anyone needing support during storms and floods should call ACT SES on 132500.
