Labor reveals its ‘progressive’ election line-up

ACT Labor has announced its 25 “progressive, practical, and proven” candidates for the October territory election.

Every Labor member from the current Legislative Assembly has been pre-selected, except for Speaker Joy Burch, who is retiring from Brindabella at the election.

Mallika Raj, daughter of former MLA Deepak Raj-Gupta, is standing for the party in Yerrabi.

Taimus Werner-Gibbings, who was pipped at the post for the sixth Brindabella seat at the last election by former Greens member Johnathan Davis is standing again.

Labor has held government in the ACT for 23 years.

With the promise of talking to “Canberrans about the progressive, nation-leading policies that will improve people’s lives and make Canberra an even better place to live”, the party says its plan includes “record investment in our public healthcare system, which will include more nurses and doctors” and “to build more public schools, improve TAFE facilities, expand the university sector and employ more teachers”.

We don’t need more of the same old stuff. Progressive? Hardly. Certainly not inclusive, nor taking care of the essentials. They focus on pet issues whilst ignoring the basics. Record spending on health? Yeah right, some promises have been made after years of neglect. This government makes announcements and promises but does not follow through, just like the Morrison government. Hardly what’s expected of a Labor government and the Greens contribute little to nothing of value since Caroline Le Couteur left, as they just fall in line with Labor failing to use the power of their votes for the benefit of all Canberrans. A motley crew of incompetents and rip-off artists the Greenslabor government.

Why is Mick Gentlemen running again??? He should have retired at the 2020 election!
Really need a younger cohort to counter the claims of a ‘tired old Government’. Having Mick there is just dumb and counter productive!
