The Canberra Liberals have committed to building a new northside hospital and to hold a royal commission into the state of the ACT health system in an election policy aimed at attracting and retaining health staff in the ACT.
“The Canberra Liberals are committed to delivering a new northside hospital and, by not proceeding with stage 2B of the tram, [we] will be able to deliver this infrastructure project faster,” said Liberal leader Elizabeth Lee.
“We will also prioritise our frontline health workers and ensure we are providing the best possible work environment we can which has not been delivered under the current Labor-Greens government.”
Lee said the Liberals would also:
- increase education allowances and protected training time for registrars and senior registrars for 5 hours a week within medical officers EBA.
- commit $120,000 to DRs4Drs to support doctors and medical students struggling with fatigue, burnout, bullying, and anxiety
- provide affordable housing for key workers like nurses and midwives
- build a multi-storey car park at the Canberra Hospital.
