No threats, but ACT police up Jewish protection

Despite not identifying any specific threat to the community, police say they have stepped up patrols at synagogues and Jewish community facilities around Canberra this week in response to incidents in other Australian cities.

They say regular patrols are occurring in an effort to ensure all community members feel safe to continue to use and enjoy these places.

“While ACT Policing has not identified any specific threat to the community, it is recognised that some people are seeking to advance particular views via criminal acts,” police say in a media statement.

“Such acts will not be tolerated by ACT Policing or the wider community.

“Anyone who has any information about people who are seeking to act on antisemitic ideologies should contact police as soon as possible.”
