A 42-year-old man has been charged after an allegedly stolen car was driven at high speed and on the wrong side of the road during a police pursuit through Canberra early Thursday.
Police spotted the silver Volkswagen Passat, which was stolen from Lyneham in June, speeding on Cotter Road in Weston Creek about 4.15am.
The driver allegedly continued at high speed through Weston Creek and Yarralumla, repeatedly driving on the wrong side of the road, crossing median strips and failing to stop for police.
Police allege the car reached speeds of up to 100km/h in 60km/h zones and caused other motorists to take evasive action before stopping in Curtin about 4.30am, where the driver was arrested.
The man allegedly refused roadside drug testing and police say they found quantities of a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine inside the car.
The man, who was subject to a good behaviour order, has been charged with aggravated furious driving, driving a motor vehicle without consent, failing to stop for police, refusing drug screening and an oral fluid sample, and driving while disqualified.
