The Sydney Roosters party has rolled into a massive fan day, with their teams celebrated by the Tricolours faithful after clinching both the NRL and NRLW titles.
It was a sea of red white and blue at the SCG on Monday morning as the thousands of Roosters fans proudly welcomed their champions home.
The teams had been partying since the fulltime whistle, but mustered up the energy to join their fans at 10am.
It’s a sweet 16th title for the Roosters men, and the third time the women have won a grand final, this time in an undefeated season.
And it’s the first time that both the men and women have won their grand final in the same year.
Only one other club has previously achieved that feat, when Brisbane did the double last year.
Roosters NRLW coach John Strange heralded the remarkable achievement.
“Outstanding result for the girls and obviously the boys getting the win as well,” Strange said.
“Great for the club, first time ever, so I couldn’t be prouder. ”
Strange showed off his dance moves, pulling out the worm to the delight of the crowd.
NRL coach Trent Robinson couldn’t quite match the dancing ability but certainly had a boogie on his own after remaining undefeated in four grand finals.
The team song was belted out loudly before players were farewelled atop a decorated open-air double-decker bus.
NRL captain and Clive Churchill medallist James Tedesco shared his appreciation for the diehard Roosters supporters, who had had been up against the popular wave of support for underdogs Newcastle.
“Big thanks for the way you’ve supported us all year, couldn’t do it without you,” Tedesco said.
The loudest cheers of the day came for “Marky Mark” Nawaqanitawase after a stellar performance with two tries in his final game before returning rugby union following two highlight-laden seasons.
Chants of “one more year” rang out around the crowd.
