Pretty lake views and plenty of seats

Overlooking the lake in Tuggeranong, there’s a cafe with pretty views and loads of indoor and outdoor seating, sys dining reviewer WENDY JOHNSON.

On Cynthea Teague Crescent, Two Before Ten Greenway dishes celebrate low food miles by sourcing some produce from the group’s Aranda Urban Farm, half a hectare of land on which the team grows fresh, sustainable produce throughout the year.

And true to Two Before Ten’s sustainability ethos is barista-quality coffee with beans prepared in small batches at its dedicated roastery.

We popped into Two Before Ten Greenway on a sunny afternoon, settling into seats beside massive floor-to-ceiling windows.

On our way in we spotted some diners enjoying the Aussie beef burger ($28), which instantly swayed two of our party to have it for lunch.

The beef patty was the right thickness and cooked without drying the meat. It was stacked high and loaded with cheese, bacon, egg, beetroot, pineapple, rocket, tomato, caramelised onion and barbecue sauce, although the kitchen happily adjusted ingredients to suit the taste of one of our party.

With the burger, you can opt for chips or a garden salad.

My eye was initially on the Reuben toastie ($20), but I had a change of heart and ordered the mushrooms on toast ($27). The large, thick slices of earthy roasted mushrooms were fabulous with garlic and thyme. The fresh broccolini retained its bite, and I loved the feta cheese and tomato relish. The dish arrived with a perfect poached egg (not hard and not too runny) and a big piece of Clementine sourdough.

Two Before Ten has a specials’ board, but even though it was just 12.30, most options were unavailable, including the list’s Chilaquiles and Persian eggs.

Bottled Press’d juices are $7 and my watermelon, apple and mint “shot of wellness” a lovely combo. These juices are great for those wanting an all-natural, plant-based drink that is cold pressed and 100 per cent Aussie made.

Sweets abound at Two Before Ten and are invitingly displayed in the glass cabin at the front (prices vary). I loved that the tiramisu cupcake wasn’t super large or super sweet. My friend thought the same about her raspberry coconut cupcake.

Two Before Ten Greenway is open for breakfast, brunch or lunch. It’s a super spot to grab a takeaway coffee, chai or hot chocolate before walking around the lake.

Service was with a smile until the end when we paid our bill. The staff member who took our money was more interested in doing a little dance and singing to the music than paying attention to us. I love enthusiasm, but a warm goodbye and/or a sincere “How was your lunch?” would have rounded out our experience.
