YOUNG people involved in the ‘Together connecting ecological communities across the ACT region’ Green Army project have commenced on-ground works.

Liberal Senator Zed Seselja said the project will benefit the ACT region through practical conservation activities with a community focus.

“Six local organisations including, Greening Australia, Bush Heritage Australia, Lions Youth Haven, and three ACT Catchment Groups – Molonglo, Ginninderra & Southern ACT will provide input to the project using their experience in conservation work,” Zed said.

“Participants involved in the project will undertake a mix of physical on-ground learning activities such as seed collection, plant propagation, water testing, erosion prevention, and revegetationfor habitat restoration and weed control.

“During the next six months we will see first-hand the benefits and improvements made to our local environment through activities undertaken by the Green Army.

“These participants will not only be generating real environmental and conservation benefits for our community, but they will be gaining valuable practical training and experience to help them prepare for the workforce or further training and improve their career opportunities,” Senator Seselja concluded.

The Green Army is a Government commitment with $525 million budgeted over four years.
