‘Opportunistic’ thieves target Karabar homes

QUEANBEYAN residents are urged to be vigilant with their home security following reports of recent break-ins in Karabar.

A spokesperson for NSW police confirmed the reports and said residents can deter “opportunistic” thieves by locking up homes, cars and valuables.

The reminder from NSW police comes after David Phillips warned locals, via the Facebook group “Queanbeyan Community Noticeboard”, that suspected offenders were “banging” on windows at night and targeting homes in Atholbar Street and Wilgabar Way in Karabar.

“Been informed by my neighbour after her telephone call to police regarding people banging on windows of a night time up and down these streets,” Mr Phillips posted to the public group last week.

According to Mr Phillip’s post, suspected offenders are operating in groups of two or more, with a vehicle sitting close by for lookout.

“Police advised that they are getting increasing reports over the last two weeks of break-ins through windows and people reporting banging on windows, a number of homes have had break-ins while families were at home,” Mr Phillips said.
A local woman, Marina Lobastov, weighed in on the conversation commenting that: “Our neighbours had a car stolen from their carport two nights ago [in] central Queanbeyan.”

Suspicious behaviour or information should be reported Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
