Lockdown shock: two more weeks for ACT

Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

FOLLOWING a surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases today (August 16), ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has extended the lockdown by two weeks until September 2.

The news comes after 19 new covid cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, brining the total to 28.

Of these cases, one of them is an aged care worker, who was unknowingly infectious while working at the facility, Greenway Views Village in Tuggeranong.

The facility is now in lockdown to manage a potential outbreak, Mr Barr said.

Mr Barr said he will provide further details of the extended lockdown tomorrow.
