QUEANBEYAN will remain in lockdown despite some areas of regional NSW opening up again.
It follows this morning’s announcement by NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro, who said that parts of regional NSW currently deemed as low risk, which have seen zero covid cases for at least 14 days, will be free from the statewide lockdown from Saturday (September 11) at midnight.
The Mid North Coast, the North Coast, the North West, Albury, Riverina and Murrumbidgee areas are set to exit lockdown.
However, the South East, the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Hunter, Central Coast, Central West and parts of the far west will stay in lockdown.
“For the areas coming out of lockdown, you are not coming back to a pre-lockdown environment,” Mr Barilaro said.
“There will be capacity limits for our hotels, cafes and restaurants, including the four square metre rule, mask wearing, social distancing.
“There are rules around certain activities that won’t recommence. Community sport won’t be permitted yet.
“The opportunity is to get back to retail shopping, back to work, back to enjoying time with family and friends.
“It is still a restricted environment.”
In NSW 1405 new infections and five deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours including three new covid cases in the Southern NSW local health district.
Regional and rural NSW entered a lockdown with greater Sydney on August 13 with a September 10 exit date originally flagged.
