Roof-repair business named by Fair Trading

THE ACT Commissioner for Fair Trading Derise Cubin has issued a public warning about DSJB Group following allegations of the company accepting deposits and then failing to commence or complete roof maintenance and repair services.

“Several Canberrans have been left out of pocket with the alleged losses totalling approximately $94,000, excluding the costs in engaging another tradesperson to complete the unfinished work,” said Cubin.

“Accepting payments from a consumer and not supplying the service is a serious offence under the Australian Consumer Law. Consumers have rights and if they have paid for services then they must be completed within the stated timeframe, or if no timeframe is given, within a reasonable time.

Cubin said the public warning is based on the complaints received by Access Canberra and the likelihood that further consumers will suffer harm.

“I urge Canberrans to be vigilant if choosing to enter into any agreement with DSJB Group and appeal to consumers to undertake their due diligence when entering into any contracts for similar services,” she said.

Yes indeed. We were left with shoddy work, not finished and the problem we engaged that firm for, left undone. We lost over $8000, have shoddy work that will have to be redone, a roof that now leaks but did not before they turned up, and the very job we were seeking remedied, ie broken fascia boards with birds getting in still left undone. So beware.

This scam artist did not complete the work hey were paid for. The work that they did complete has left my roof a complete mess. We lost $3,000. The individual know as Dan Brown has a a list of excuses as to when they will return and never do. They also operate under the name Renov8tions PTY LTD.

Mr Brown has now just disappeared, does not take calls and I see other reports that the company is now being deregistered, and there is complaint lodged with Access ACT and also ACAT. Mark is he still around do? We got the police to call his mobile and it seems he might be in Qld and once he recognises a number he does not answer his mobile and the address on his bill does not appear valid either.

It would appear that he is still trading and is now using the business name Renov8tions PTY LTD. The last message he sent me was late December 2022. On his invoice he lists an address in the City (Canberra) however that is an unoccupied address. Yesterday I saw an advertisement by his new company name for staff, where he gave the working location as being Mitchell
