A 32-year-old Queanbeyan man faced is facing court charged with aiding and abetting the forcible confinement of a Kambah woman in 2011.
The Queanbeyan man is the third person charged by detectives of the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team after a woman came forward to police through the Canberra Women’s Legal Centre in June last year.
SACAT detectives have now arrested her former partner and two of his associates.
Police will allege that her former partner assaulted and forcibly restrained the woman at their residence in Kambah while she was holding their then six-month-old child and assaulted again after being forced to hand over the care of her child to family members.
It will be further alleged that the victim was knocked unconscious with a tyre iron and driven to two more residential addresses where she was restrained, violently assaulted and raped over the following three days.
The primary alleged offender, a 40-year-old man, remains in custody awaiting trial in the ACT Supreme Court for the offences of forcible confinement, sexual intercourse without consent (multiple counts), sexual assault in the third degree, recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm (multiple counts) and common assault.
SACAT detectives believe there are people who have further information in relation to this matter who have so far been unwilling to speak about it.
Anyone with information about this matter should report it at any police station or call131 444.
