A CANBERRA man who “just wanted to get home quickly” has lost his licence and copped a big fine after speeding down William Hovell Drive.

The 49-year-old man from Lawson – who was on his Ps – was caught by police travelling at 138km/h in an 80km/h zone in Aranda at 12:20am this morning (September 30).

When police spoke to the man he indicated “there wasn’t much traffic on the road”.

The rush to get home cost the man 12 demerit points, an $1841 fine and a licence suspension for at least three months.

Police say the motorcyclist is one of the first ACT drivers to lose double demerit points and subsequently his licence ahead of this Labour Day long weekend.

The double demerit period ends at 11.59pm on October 3.
