POLICE fired a taser to take a 35-year-old man into custody yesterday (October 11).

The man, who was subject to an intensive corrections order, was arrested with a 28-year-old woman following a fail to stop incident in Fyshwick.

About 12.35pm, officers from Operation Toric spotted the pair, travelling in a grey Subaru Liberty, enter the underground car park of the Canberra Outlet Centre.

The man has been charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police, breach of an intensive corrections order and drug driving.

The woman has been charged with drug trafficking, failing to appear in court and to answer an existing arrest warrant.

These arrests come only a day after Operation Toric officers arrested another 28-year-old woman in Gungahlin.

She was charged with seven offences including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, unlicenced driving, failing to appear in court after a bail undertaking, breach of parole, breach of a good behaviour order and breach of a treatment order.

To date Operation Toric has made more than 800 apprehensions and laid more than 200 charges.

About time too and it has only taken 55 years to have some decent police presence in Canberra. (Ex resident after nearly 40 years in Canberra and one of the reasons for leaving was lack of police action.)
