A 27-year-old O’Connor man, who was subject to a good behaviour order, will again face court after being found in possession of what police describe as “an improvised firearm”.
They say that late on Friday night police on mobile patrol of City Walk, Civic, spotted two men on bicycles not wearing helmets. The men fled before police caught up with one of them a short time later on Currong Street North, Braddon.
A search of the man’s backpack revealed a black improvised firearm, which was immediately seized, as well as tools and other items, including a face mask, police suspect were to be used to commit offences.
The man was arrested and charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm, going equipped for theft and breach of a good behaviour order.
