Weather map of the start of the December 8 storm over Canberra.

THE ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received more than 600 requests for help since a violent thunderstorm storm rocked Canberra on Friday night.

Emergency have crews worked throughout the night and this morning and have completed nearly half of these jobs so far.

ACTES says there are a large number of trees down across the ACT already.

“High soil moisture may cause more downed trees, even after the storm has passed,” it says.

“Please take care near large trees, and while driving on ACT roads.

Evoenergy reports that more than 700 Canberrans remain without power. This is expected to continue into Sunday and possibly Monday.
