The Royal Australian Mint is commemorating the succession from the Queen to King Charles with its limited 2024 Six-Coin Uncirculated Year Set.
Portraits of the late Queen Elizabeth by Mary Gillick, Arnold Machin, Raphael Maklouf, Ian Rank Broadley and Jody Clark appear on five of the coins, while the new effigy of King Charles by Daniel Thorne appears on the sixth.
In keeping with tradition, the portrait of the King will face left, the opposite direction from the effigies of his mother.
With the standard Australian coin designs on the reverse, it is also the first opportunity collectors have to get a $2 “King” coin.
Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon said: “The story behind the set focuses on the monarch effigies which have appeared on Australian coins as we transition from the reign of the Queen to that of the King. The King’s effigy appears on the $2 coin allowing for a dynamic visual of the five Queen effigies looking to the right while the King effigy looks back at them.”
The limited, special edition 2024 Six-Coin Uncirculated Year Set will be for sale through the Royal Australian Mint’s Contact Centre on 1300 352020, by EQL ballot or through the mint’s authorised distributors. They are not available from the Mint’s coin shop at this stage.
Registration for the ballot opens at 8.30am on Wednesday and closes at 8.30am on Thursday. The draw will take place immediately following the ballot and successful entrants will be notified by email. Register for the ballot at www.ramint.gov.au
