EACH year, the National Film and Sound Archive gets Australians to nominate their favourite recording, and 10 are selected to be added to the National Registry of Recorded Sound.

The 2012 selections will be announced on August 29, so it’s time for the public to nominate its choices of seminal sound recordings to the “Sounds of Australia” registry.

Last year’s selections included the 1898 recordings from the Cambridge Anthropological Expedition to the Torres Strait, Ken Howard calling the Melbourne Cup, the Seekers singing “I’ll Never Find Another You”, a radio news report of Cyclone Tracy hitting Darwin, the Skyhooks album “Living in the 70s”, the maiden parliamentary speeches of the first two women elected to Federal Parliament and Kylie Minogue singing “I Should Be So Lucky”.
