British vocal ensemble VOCES8, once described as “the Rolls-Royce of British a cappella ensembles”, will soon be at Snow Concert Hall to perform a concert where the repertoire ranges from Renaissance to jazz and pop.
They will start off their Australian tour in Canberra, their first time here, and will be joined by brilliant British/German violinist, Jack Liebeck, the Royal Academy of Music’s first Émile Sauret Professor of Violin and artistic director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.
Blending two quite distinct styles, they will present an unapologetically romantic program called Let My Love be Heard, billed as a tribute to sacred chorale through the ages.
Central to the program will be Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, in an arrangement by Paul Drayton, which infuses elements of the original poem by George Meredith that inspired Vaughan Williams, into the vocal arrangement.
This was performed by the ensemble in celebration of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ 150th anniversary in October 2022.
The concert will also include Gibbons’s O Clap Your Hands, Caroline Shaw’s and the Swallow, and the Chaconne from Bach’s Partita No. 2, a vehicle for solo violin.
VOCES8’s work extends beyond live performances and recordings, as its artists travel the globe under the direction of co-founder Barnaby Smith, conducting workshops and masterclasses in schools and community groups.
Pioneering initiatives include the LIVE From London online festival and the VOCES8 Digital Academy.
