Canberra to Bali flights take off

Batik Air is now flying direct services Canberra to Bali.

By aviation writer Scott Mayman

Canberra now has a direct holiday flight service with Bali.

Batik Air flew its maiden voyage on Friday, with plans to fly between Canberra and Denpasar three times a week using a Boeing 737-800 jet.

It means the carrier becomes the second airline in the past year to offer international flights from the national capital.

Earlier this year, Fiji Airways began a direct service, three times a week.

Batik Air helps reduce the flight time for on-going flights to other Asian destinations.

As a treat to mark the first flight, local Canberra gifts were offered to arriving passengers.

Canberra Airport is continuing with plans to see other direct international flights to Doha, Singapore and NZ among others.

One Response to Canberra to Bali flights take off

Reader MICHAEL SIRR isn’t a happy camper. He writes: “I was supposed to be on the inaugural flight from Canberra to Bali last Friday morning.

Bad news!!:) Batik staff would not let me board.

I arrived at the Airport at around 6:15am, found Batik check-in, with a queue which was moving very slowly. Another passenger who noticed I had carry-on made a comment “you could have checked in online, quite a few have”. I went onto the Batik website, entered the flight number, surname and departure point followed by Passport details and acceptance of the normal terms and conditions etc. I even selected a seat!!! I was prompted to print or
receive a Boarding Pass by email. I believed I had checked-in.

I then proceeded through Airport Security, noted that the departure gate was #5 and then got coffee and newspaper. Shortly after I went to Gate 5 and
there was no activity! Airport staff, when asked, said the departure gate was downstairs. I went downstairs and without luck was then told the
departure was from upstairs!! I returned back to the Batik desk and was told by staff there that check-in had closed!! I stated I had already checked-in
on-line. I had a seat number and a Boarding Pass which was being emailed to me. I was then told that you still had to come through the check-in desk! The staff were rude and abrupt and not the least bit interested. It was approximately 7:20am by then. They said to “get back in touch with your agent”.
To say I was extremely disappointed and annoyed!! would be an understatement.”
