ACT police say they’re “well versed in managing protest activity” and that officers will be ready to respond to any upcoming Middle East protests in the national capital over the weekend.

Aware of planned protest activity during the weekend and early next week, police are asking protesters to do so peacefully.

Police say they’ll be present at these events and may close roads at short notice to ensure the safety of the public and protesters.

“While police respect the right of people to peacefully protest, criminal acts such as displaying prohibited symbols will not be tolerated,” they say in a media statement.

“Police encourage protest groups to respect the law and follow their directions to ensure the safety of protestors and the wider public.”
