Łukasz Krupiński, the brilliant London-based Polish pianist, returns to Canberra with a recital including works by Bach/Busoni, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, and Schulz-Evler. Wesley Music Centre, November 17.

ArtsNational Molonglo Plains has cinematographer Pieter De Vries talking about filming with David Attenborough and National Geographic, also about Piet’s Journey to Titanic with James Cameron. Auditorium, Queanbeyan, November 14.

Film critic, broadcaster, author, thinker and self-described stirrer, Prof Deb Verhoeven will deliver the 2024 Rod Wallace Memorial Lecture for the Friends of the NFSA. Arc Cinema, November 14.

Barbie Robinson’s new kids’ (and adults’) book, Molly and Maple, illustrated by Yass artist Sara Phemister is based on the true story of former Canberra journalist, speechwriter and community activist, Annette Holden. Launch at The Book Cow, Kingston, November 15.

  • Drizzle Boy, a smash-hit for Queensland Theatre, follows a young autistic boy, portrayed by Daniel R Nixon, in his first weeks at university as his parents adapt to his burgeoning independence. The Playhouse, November 13-16.
  • Hawker College, always a powerhouse of theatre studies, is putting on one of the most hilarious plays ever written, Michael Frayn’s Noises Off. Murranji Theatre, Hawker, November 14-15.
  • The Boney M Xperience presents an evening of non-stop dancing and timeless music as Fabba delivers Abba’s classics. The Q, November 14.
  • Marcel Cole is doing his final Canberra performances of The Ukulele Man as part of the Fringe on Tour at Smith’s Alternative, November 15-16.
  • Camino Man is a one-man show about the time Steve Wilson walked across the north coast of Spain on the Camino del Norte, one of the Camino de Santiago pilgrim trails in Europe. Smith’s Alternative, November 17.
  • Anh Do’s The Happiest Refugee combines stand-up comedy with real-life stories, photos, and filmed pieces. The B, Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, November 20.

Galleries

  • Megalo Print Studio’s Wayzgoose exhibition will bring together over 100 artworks by more than 50 contemporary printmakers from across ACT, NSW, SA, Victoria and Tasmania. At Kingston, until December 14.
  • The art show, LOOP (Looking Out for our Planet), features paintings and textile pieces by Michele England and colleagues that consider multiple aspects of sustainability and hope for the future. Barton ArtBox, Barton, November 15-24.
  • Local potters Liz Crowe, Bronwen Wicks, Jacqui Keogh, Trevor Heldt and Lee Nelms have combined to present an exhibition entitled, There is a Crack in Everything… That’s How the Light Gets In. Strathnairn Arts Centre Woolshed Gallery, Holt, November 16-December 8.

Concerts

  • The CSO, under the baton of guest conductor Benjamin Bayl, will perform Dvořák’, Mozart, Haydn and a new commission from Canberra composer Christopher Sainsbury in the concert, Forest Lore. Llewellyn Hall, November 14.
  • Phoenix Collective’s next concert is at Wesley Uniting Church on November 15, where they’ll perform Beethoven and Vasks with dance music by French electro-pop duo Daft Punk.
  • Scottish-Japanese guitarist Sean Shibe, billed as “a musical chameleon of the new generation,” will join Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Scotland Unbound, Llewellyn Hall, November 16.
  • In The Americans, SCUNA, the ANU Choral Society, presents an hour of religious, theatrical and film masterpieces from America, Larry Sitsky Recital Room, ANU School of Music, November 15.
  • The Australian String Quartet, joined by guest cellist Charlotte Miles, will present its postponed Aurora concert 2pm, Gandel Hall, NGA, November 17.
  • Maruki Community Orchestra’s last concert for 2024, Hope, will comprise Pomp and Circumstance No. 1 (Elgar), Jupiter (Holst), Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major (Mozart) featuring soloist Georgina Chan and Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67 (Beethoven). Albert Hall, November 17.
  • Kamela Bain & Robyn Mellor (recorders) with Ariana Odermatt (harpsichord) will perform at Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, (music room) November 20.
  • Four former Canberra region students and one from Newcastle — Freddie Klein, Tashana Hardy, Jack Bolton, Xanthe Allen, and Liam Jackson — will be here for a one-night Opera Gala after completing voice studies at the Queensland Conservatorium. Snow Concert Hall, November 20.
  • Adelaide solo artist Aleksiah’s You’re Never Getting Rid Of Me tour is coming to The Basement, Belconnen, November 20.
