Driver charged after pursuit through Belconnen

A 43-year-old man has been charged after allegedly swerving a stolen car towards a police officer during a pursuit through Belconnen on Wednesday.

Police say a white Toyota Camry was stolen from the Tuggeranong pool carpark about 10.35am before being spotted in Dickson and later Kaleen.

The driver allegedly failed to stop for police, continuing onto Ginninderra Drive before crossing a greenbelt back into Kaleen.

Police deployed stop-sticks on Cloncurry Street and again on Cataract Street, where the driver allegedly swerved towards an officer.

The Camry continued driving before colliding with a stationary ute at a residential building site, where the driver was arrested.

The man has been charged with driving at police, failing to stop for police, taking and driving a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving unaccompanied as a learner, breaching a treatment order and four counts of breaching a good behaviour order.
