YEARS ago, Canberra printmaker Sophia Dounoukos had her first solo exhibition at Megalo, titled “Life Bites.”
Since that, life has bitten and she’s become a mum, as well as being part of a design business, spectrum graphics & design, in Fyshwick.
Now Dounoukos tells us she has a new body of work to present a collection of digital pigment prints.
There are two key themes, she says, nature found and colour form. “I have experimented with scale, colour and context to draw attention to details that normally get ignored or simply absorbed into the everyday. Each image presents an opportunity to create new relationships, to really re-look at something.”
Of her home town, Canberra, she says, “ The light is beautiful here, and it changes with each season, making colours so distinct, each day affecting my creative outlook and experiences.”
Sophia Dounoukos, “RE LOOK,” at ‘pod,’ Lonsdale Traders, Braddon, Wed – Thurs 10 – 2 Fri – Sun 10 – 5 until July 31. Opening today, Thurs June 13, 5:30 – 7:30pm.
