A 49-year-old Symonston man will face court after ACT Policing recovered a stolen motor vehicle in Wanniassa yesterday (June 17).
About 10.55pm, police located the blue Ford Falcon, which had been reported stolen last Sunday June 15, at a Wanniassa service station. The car left the service station and police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle shortly after. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away from police in the direction of Erindale Drive.
Police followed the vehicle at a safe distance through O’Malley, Isaacs and Wanniassa, reaching speeds of 150km/h in a 80km/h zone.
The Ford Falcon then mounted the gutter and came to a stop near the intersection of Ashley Drive and Erindale Drive. The driver exited the car, attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by ACT Policing Tuggeranong Patrol members.
The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with offences relating to driving a car without consent, driving while disqualified, not stopping when directed by police and reckless driving.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
