Following the festive season, February cheers Canberrans’ awards season.
With a passion for politics and international relations, ANU lecturer Dr. John Minns has been awarded the Prime Minister’s award for Australian Teaching. Watercolor artist Rodney Usback wins a prize in the 2011 WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition, and the Australian Institute of Management Young Manager of the Year Award goes to Julie McKay, executive director of UNIFEM Australia.
A new research awards the most sexy suburbs in Canberra. Canberra’s most attractive women are found in Gungahlin, while the most attractive men are from Forrest.
Meanwhile, Ainslie author and nature writer Nicholas Drayson is the recent winner of the inaugural Wildcare Tasmania Nature Writing Prize.
Our former politician Greg Cornwell believes he can write as well, and even publishes. Unlike Drayson, he goes online and self-publishes his book “Shangri-La”. Guess what, he may set a trend.
If you’ve got the talent, there is always an outlet you can write for. Canberra gardening guru Cedric Bryant starts to write for “CItyNews” after his column elsewhere terminated. Welcome aboard.
But we have to say good-bye to Canberra film-maker Che Baker. A 3D master, Baker is off to NZ to work with Hollywood hobbits on Peter Jackson’s latest film, but says he will call Canberra home in breaks.
