Gilchrist off to Aranda

CRICKET legend and National Australia Day Council chair Adam Gilchrist will be at Aranda Primary School tomorrow, to celebrate the up-coming Australian Citizenship Day with a special affirmation ceremony.

More than 100 student from Years five and six will take part in the citizenship affirmation ceremony ahead of Saturday’s Australian Citizenshop Day celebrations.

Citizenship affirmation ceremonies are an opportunity for exisiting citizens to express their pride and loyalty to the nation. It also involves a recitation of an affirmation based on the Australian citizenship pledge made by new citizens at their citizenship ceremonies.

Around 4000 people are expected to become citizens across Australia on Saturday.
