Mapping a vibrant Fraser

Lake Belconnen.

BELCONNEN Arts Centre has joined forces with Federal Member for Fraser Andrew Leigh to create a giant interactive map of the Federal electorate of Fraser on the northside of Canberra until November 17, and everyone is encouraged to drop in and plot their most “meaningful” places onto the map.

When describing your favourite place you can draw it, photograph it, create a collage, write a story or a poem, or create a performance work. It could be a tiny restaurant, a bike track, a school, a tennis court, a park, an arts or community centre, or a heritage site.

Belconnen Community arts officer Philip Piggin says that when the map is taken down, a final design will be developed to be printed and made available for everyone in 2012.

You won’t have to do it on your own. Piggin and professional artist Maryann Mussared will be on hand to help with  the creative process for the  project. Belconnen Arts Centre (11 – 1pm, October 29), Gorman House Arts Centre (11 – 1pm, November 5) and Gungahlin Library (11 – 1pm, November 12).

The arts centre’s idea is to help you let your imagination run wild. Leigh’s plan is to show that the Fraser electorate is the most vibrant place in Australia.
