‘Big, beautiful and unique’ images for Scope

SCOPE, as most readers know, is the cafe, restaurant and function centre in the grounds of the Mt Stromlo Observatory. Future

It’s to be the setting for “Past Present Future – 10 Year Bushfire Anniversary Exhibition,” a  photographic show curated by Ben Henderson, and he needs your photos very soon.

Henderson  is looking for “big, beautiful and unique” images of the Weston Creek and the Cotter region with the emphasis not on the tragic past, but on the present, and particularly on  how our community has recovered and what the landscape holds for us now.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer and entry is open to all people, young and old. The deadline for submissions is Saturday,  January 12.

The idea is to build a sense of pride and optimism for all those affected directly by the 2003 bushfire event, and for Canberra as a whole.

“Past Present Future” aims to recognise the heritage values of the site, as well as the significance of the Weston Creek area in connection with the 2003 bushfires, the  recovery and the renewal.

Scope at Mt Stromlo is also looking for artists, poets, community groups and individuals who might be passionate about the region and would like to get involved in some way.

The exhibition will run from January 18 to  February 18, entry free.
