Drowning teens saved by firefighter

TWO teenage girls have been saved from drowning by an off duty firefighter this afternoon after falling into swollen floodwater in Gungahlin.

After the girls fell into Yerrabi Pond at Amaroo, the man jumped into the water and retrieved them, including one who was submerged under the surface.

He then performed CPR with assistance from police officers.

ACT Ambulance Service crews arrived a short time later.

Both girls were stablised by intensive care paramedics then transported to Calvery Hospital, one is a serious condition the other stable.

ACT State Emergency Service remind the public to stay away from flooded drains or waterways during wet weather conditions and straight after them.
