NIGEL Wearne is a country/folk singer-songwriter very familiar to Canberra music lovers, and he’ll be in town on Friday.
Wearne has performed at music festivals throughout Australia, most recently including the 2012 Port Fairy Folk Festival and the 2012 Gulgong Folk Festival.
Wearne’s music typically involves an intimate and poignant narrative. His latest 12-song album, “Black Crow,” was released on November 2 and songs rage from the rollicking debut single “Stealth,” to the brooding, biographical tale “Pemulwuy”. Wearne likes to tell stories of bank robbers, wandering poets and his personal favourites – eggs.
His guitar conjures up country twang, honky tonk and direct storytelling. Influences include Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan – with that list he can’t go wrong.
Nigel Wearne’s “ Black Crow” album tour come to the Front Gallery & Cafe, Lyneham, on Friday Nov 9. Details at www.frontgallerycafe.com
