Summer music at the Gardens

Update: The Australian National Botanic Gardens have confirmed that Saturday’s  SummerSounds concert featuring Los Chavos has been cancelled due to Canberra’s total fire ban.

Weather permitting the concerts will go ahead on Sunday 19 January featuring Hit Parade.

AUSTRALIAN National Botanic Gardens staff are rejoicing in good figures for the 2014 Summer Concert Series, with around 7,000 people enjoying the live music over the first two weekends.

GardensReports have reached “CityNews” of happy smiling faces, cool flasks of wine and picnic rugs under the eucalyptus.

This Saturday January 18, the Gardens will go Latino with Latin Reggae band Los Chavos, while on Sunday, January 19, “Hit Parade” promises a sing-along to musical favourites from several eras.

Ice-cream is available for purchase at the concerts as well as a cold bar offering beer, wine, water and soft drink, but—much more effective — a cool off in the Gardens’ Rainforest Gully is recommended as “the best natural air-conditioning in town”.

The 2014 Summer Sounds Concerts Series, 5.30 – 7.30 pm every Saturday and Sunday evening in January.  Entry by donation to the Friends of the Gardens – $2 for individuals and $5 for families. Disabled parking is available, as well as an assistance bus from the car park to the Eucalypt Lawn. ACTION bus route 981 travels to the Gardens from City Platform 9 on weekends. The last bus departs from City at 4.20pm and from the Gardens at 4.48 pm. All details at anbg.gov.au/gardens/whatson/events/summer-2014/summer-sounds.html
