THE Liberals’ Alistair Coe is calling for a high level inquiry into what he sees as an ailing construction industry in Canberra.

“It has come to the point where the sector is suffering major problems because of this government and the Canberra Liberals are calling for highest possible investigation under ACT law which is a Board of Inquiry,” Mr Coe said.

“The fees, fines and charges imposed on the industry by the government should be examined as should the delivery of land, performance of government agencies related to the sector and the contribution of construction to the economy.”

Alistair says he has listened to the lamentations of the construction sector, which he says is pushing costs onto home buyers, and he sees a wide ranging inquiry as the first step in correcting these injustices.

UPDATE: Alistair is now complaining that the Government has declined his invitation to spend millions on an inquiry.

“The government’s decision to vote against the Canberra Liberals call for a Board of Inquiry demonstrates that ACT Labor and the Greens aren’t interested in solving the problems facing the sector,” Alistair said.
