Christmas lights go on next Friday

“CHRISTMAS in the City – Canberra Celebrates!” is kicking off next Friday with a program of events and activities for all ages.

With support from the ACT Government, Christmas in the City will be spreading festive cheer throughout the City centre from November 27 to December 31.

Opening night festivities include an entertaining Christmas concert, the lighting of the Canberra Christmas Tree, visits from Santa, and the Christmas night markets.

Beginning at 7.00pm near the Canberra Times Fountain outside the Canberra Centre, the Christmas concert will feature appearances by New-Zealand-Australian actor and Play School presenter Jay Laga’aia, Canberra’s own The Voice 2015 contestant Amber Nichols, the Grinch Live Show and Santa!

The concert will coincide with the lighting of the Canberra Christmas Tree where we will find out whether SIDS & Kids ACT’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record title for the most number of lights on an artificial Christmas tree has been successful.

The Chief Minister will officially switch on the Canberra Christmas tree at approximately 8:50pm.
