RUDE, lewd and KREWD – hip hop at Smith’s

CANBERRA rapper and self-styled ‘grotesque burlesque performer’, MC KREWD is bringing her ‘diabolical’ tragi-comedy “Drizzle From The Sizzle” to the re-opened Smith’s Alternative for ONE NIGHT ONLY (as they say in showbiz) next week.

Born out of the production company, KREWD, the show fuses hip hop, original and reimagined songs and grotesque burlesque to shed light on issues of class, abandonment and motherhood. Is there anything more to cover?

“Drizzle from the Sizzle” is a satirical, pop-culture-laden show that focuses on “turning dire circumstances into blessings,” says the show’s artistic director, Katie Woodward, who bears an uncanny resemblance to MC KREWD herself.

“Behind every stereotype there is a story of humanity and there is life. Social and political constructs keep people reliant on a welfare system for survival, yet vilify the very people created within it,” Woodward adds.

There’s a warning: the show features coarse language and adult themes. It is rude, lewd and, above all, KREWD.

“Drizzle from the Sizzle”, at Smith’s Alternative, 76 Alinga St, Civic, 7pm, December 23, bookings to smithsalternative.com/events/mc-krewd-presents-drizzle-from-the-sizzle-4629
