Police arrest alleged car wash bandit

break in

ACT Policing has arrested a 20-year-old Theodore man in relation to multiple burglary and property damage offences that occurred at three self-serve carwashes located in Calwell, Tuggeranong and Belconnen earlier this month.

ACT Policing sought the public’s assistance in identifying the alleged offender after releasing CCTV of a male attempting to gain access to money in the carwash coin machines.

Following information provided from the public to Crime Stoppers, members from Tuggeranong Patrol, with assistance from Criminal Investigations, executed a search warrant on a residence in Theodore yesterday (Monday, 18 July).

A number of stolen items were recovered during the search warrant.

The Theodore man was charged with three counts of attempted theft, three counts of property theft and one count of burglary. He will face the ACT Magistrate’s Court at a later date.

Officer-in-Charge of Tuggeranong Police Station, Station Sergeant Chris Meagher said this arrest demonstrated the vital role members of the community play in assisting police to prevent crime and apprehend offenders.

“Through the information that was provided by the public, we have been able to make an arrest,” Sergeant Meagher said.

“When the community and police work together the result is a safer community.”
