Update: Reports of Gilmore blaze send firefighters into action

REPORTS of a house fire in Gilmore sent Canberra firefighters into action but upon arrival they found residents conducting a burn off in their backyard.

The house on Louise Lawson Crescent was reported to ACT Fire & Rescue at 11.39am and it was the first of two “house fire” reports today (June 13).

Minutes later ACT Fire & Rescue also responded to reports of a house fire in Badgery Street, Macquarie.

Firefighters again arrived to find a backyard burn in progress.

ACT Fire & Rescue remind the community that backyard burns are not permitted in the ACT. Green waste can be disposed of free of charge at Mugga Lane and West Belconnen Resource Management Centres.
