Grammar announces room for female boarders

THE newly co-ed Canberra Grammar School has today (March 28) announced that from the start of next year the school will offer boarding for girls in years 7 to 12 in new purpose-built accommodation on the school’s campus.

There will be accommodation for 28 rooms for girls to supplement the existing boarding house, which currently accommodates 80 boys, and will also include adjoining staff accommodation with construction beginning in mid-2018 .

“Once complete, the new boarding village will replace the existing boarding house and will provide flexible and long-stay boarding accommodation with individual rooms for around 150 boys and girls from Years 7 to 12 in high-quality, comfortable and modern facilities. The new complex will be surrounded by a spacious indoor social area, with reception, laundry, self-catering and storage facilities,” says Dr Justin Garrick, head of Canberra Grammar School.

“The Campus Development Plan represents the next stage of the school’s transition to full co-education and enhances the school’s historic commitment to boarding for regional and rural families, for Canberra-based families on remote postings and for international students.

“Boarding has been central to the life of Canberra Grammar School since its earliest days. We are excited by these plans to enhance its future for boys and girls, to extend co-education at the school to its next phase, and we are proud to reaffirm its vital and flourishing place in our community.”
