Drums, bands and candles

THE energetic and dynamic Japanese drumming troupe Wadaiko Rindo is headlining this year’s Canberra Nara Candle Festival.

The annual festival celebrates Canberra’s sister city relationship with the Japanese city Nara with a spectacle of 2000 candles and a range of Japanese cuisine, activities and entertainment.

Entertainers also include Japanese pop group Manpuku Band, high-energy Japanese dance troupe Hokkai Ahondarakai, ACT Senior Concert Band and Narrabundah College dancers.

Martial arts demonstrations, drumming and ikebana workshops, calligraphy, lantern making and Shiatsu massage are just some of the other activities of the free festival at Canberra Nara Peace Park and Lennox Gardens (behind the Hyatt Hotel), Yarralumla, 5pm-9pm, Saturday, October 22.

Parking is available in the Parliamentary Zone, with free shuttle buses to the park.
