INTERNATIONAL aid organisation Christian Blind Mission (CBM) will be challenging Australians to think beyond poverty, to the root causes in a photographic exhibition entitled “End The Cycle”.
The exhibition will feature photographs of people living with disabilities in the Solomons and Cambodia, where each subject chose where the photo was to be taken to represent their disability and how it impacts their lives.
The photos were taken by CBM staff in conjunction with local disability organisations.
“An enormous one in five people living in poverty have a disability and the overwhelming majority of people with a disability live in poverty,” says CBM Australia CEO, John Jeffries.
“‘End the Cycle’ empowers people in developing countries with a disability to tell their own stories, demonstrating how disability is both a cause and consequence of poverty.
“Having a say in decisions which affect you and telling your own story is very empowering.”
The exhibition, supported by AusAID, will tour to other capital cities.
“End The Cycle” will be in the foyer of The High Court of Australia from September 13 –26.
