Saving our Artsound

Artsound FM manager Chris Deacon

IT’S a busy season at ArtSound FM in the Manuka Arts Centre, as “CityNews” found when we dropped in on Friday, November 4.

ArtSound FM (FM 92.7 and 90.3) is in the middle of its annual Radiothon, which wraps up on Sunday, November 13 from 3:50pm with an Open Day, featuring a music and book sale.

According to general manager Chris Deacon, the theme for this year is “Save Our Sound”, a reference to the preservation of thousands of hours of audio recordings of Canberra performances and interviews that go back almost 30 years.

It costs $2.50 to preserve one minute of sound, so a quick calculation shows that a donation of $30 would help preserve 12 minutes of sound.

If you go that way, you’ll also get a ticket into the daily prizes and the major prize, drawn on November 13, of a five night stay at Warwick Le Lagon Spa and Resort Vanuatu with two economy class air tickets from Sydney or Brisbane to Port Vila.

ArtSound FM is hoping members of the public will join as members, renew their memberships, or donate $30 to go into the draw.

With solid public support the station believes it can continue to bring music and arts to all Canberrans.
