Art through the keyhole

AN exhibition by artists from the Art in Miniature group will be held at the Raglan Gallery and Cultural Centre in Cooma, opening this weekend.

Their stated “AIM” is to create miniature works of excellence and they’ve been exhibiting annually since 2002.

Sixteen artists, most of them drawn from Canberra and surrounding districts, have used different art media and styles, including collage, abstract or traditional, to “follow the spirit of miniaturisation, with an eye to small proportions, fine brush strokes and texture”.

To the artists, producing these “exquisite small gems,” the title of the show, “Through the Keyhole,” should evoke instant images to most people of what might be seen through a small opening. The artists capture a private intimate moment or moments, in time and space.

AIM was conceived by Jan Vincent and Margaret Bice, both local artists. The preent group includes Camelia Smith, Eva Henry, Isla Patterson, Jan Vincent, Janet Hicks, Jocelyn Godber, Sandra House, Lucie Anfiloff, Lyn Cottingham, Margaret Bice, Michaela Laurie, Patricia Newton Howieson, Stuart Marshall, Arlene Williams, Val Johnson and newcomer Tricia Wheatstone.

“Through the Keyhole” at the Raglan Gallery and Cultural Centre,9-11 Lambie St., Cooma, Wed to Sun, 9.30 – 4.30pm until December 1. The opening is at 3 pm tomorrow, Saturday, November 10 by Marie Ziezack.
