DESPITE its worldwide popularity, a new study has found just 17 per cent of Canberrans use Twitter.

The study, conducted by Newspoll, interviewed 1000 locals and found an overall percentage of 83 per cent never use Twitter.

This figure dropped to 74 per cent among 18-34s but rose to 98 per cent of those 65 plus.

As a social media platform, Twitter is well behind Facebook, which is used by 60 per cent of Canberrans.
