ACCORDING to the ACT Opposition estimations, the Cotter Dam budget blow-out had added $230 to Canberra water bills before the effects of the March floods.
“Canberrans will effectively be slugged a water tax because of ACT Labor’s inability to bring in major infrastructure projects on budget,” ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said.
“The dam already blew out by $218 million on the initial estimate, we now know it’s blown out $33 million more and given this government’s track record, where it will end up is anyone’s guess.
“Canberrans will be the ones paying for it, and they’re already stung with $500 more for water bills since ACT Labor came to power.”
Mr Seselja said it was the Government’s short-term thinking on infrastructure that has left residents footing the bill for budget blow-outs.
“The people of Canberra are already experiencing huge cost of living pressures under the highest taxing government in Territory history,” he said.
