Controlled burns tomorrow

THE ACT Rural Fire Service will conduct a hazard reduction burn from 10am to 6pm tomorrow at the Canberra Equestrian Centre, near the intersection of Hindmarsh and Eucumbene Drives, Chapman.

Five heavy tankers, one light unit, one command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of  about one hectare.

Also tomorrow, the fire service will conduct a pile burn at Thoroughbred Park, Randwick Road, Lyneham from 10.30am and continue until 4.30pm.

The purpose of both burns is to remove a fuel hazard.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
