2CC dumps Gardner after ‘penis cam’ comment

COMMENTS made by breakfast radio producer Jorian Gardner about Stephen Conroy and a “penis cam” on 2CC this morning has made national headlines.
The comments were made on Mark Parton’s breakfast show, which Gardner is producer of, and were in reference to a print article on the police union calling for “lapel cams” for ACT police uniforms. The comments were made as part of Gardner’s daily 6.20am editorial segment. Gardner has been banned from the air for one week.
“Quote of the Day: What we need is Stephen Conroy penis cam. Then we could find out what really happens under the cabinet table,” Jorian said on Twitter in reference to his comments.
“They were extremely poor taste and I don’t want them on my radio station,”  2CC program director Peter Davidson said.
“At this stage, he is suspended till next Wednesday.”
Davidson, who had a stern word to both Parton and Gardner as soon as they were off air this morning, said Parton was in charge of the control panel, however failed to use the dump button.
“Mark did try and shut the situation down,” he said. “Part of the discussion this morning concerned the future structure of editorial and that it is always fully thought out and Mark is fully prepared with what is to be discussed.”
Davidson said, at this stage, no other action will be taken on the incident.
Jorian Gardner is also news director at Capital Radio and was the chief of staff of the ACT’s  WIN News.
