POLICE have arrested a 39-year-old Latham man overnight after he abandoned his car and punched a constable multiple times.
Around 9pm yesterday police stopped an unregistered white Mitsubishi ute driving along Southern Cross Drive in Latham.
The male driver abandoned the car, ran from police and a short foot pursuit ensued.
Police found the man hiding in a backyard of a nearby house and attempted to place him in custody, but the man resisted violently, striking out at the officer and punching the constable multiple times.
The constable received treatment for cuts and abrasions at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service.
The offender was taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with five offences including driving whilst disqualified, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and resisting arrest.
He was bailed from the ACT Watch House to face the ACT Magistrates Court on December 4.
