LEGISLATION passed by Federal Parliament today enables the ACT Government to increase the size of the Legislative Assembly.
The bill passed the Senate today after making it through the House of Representatives last month, after negotiations between the Labor Government and the Greens.
Australian Greens leader Senator Christine Milne said she was “thrilled” to have secured ACT residents the right to decide on how they are represented locally.
“The Greens support the ACT’s right to decide the size of its assembly and we’re pleased to have put the needs of the ACT on the Government’s agenda,” Ms Milne said.
“The Greens will continue to stand up for the people of the ACT and support their request to have a Legislative Assembly that can meet the demands of the Territory.”
